Amalgamation update from President Marina

Dear Member,

I hope you are all enjoying your golf despite the weather - which has definitely not been the best of summers!

I promised to keep you all updated in our discussions with Fife Golf Association (FGA) regarding a potential amalgamation with Fife County Ladies Golf Association (FCLGA)

These discussions have been ongoing for the past year and have been constructive and positive. We are currently looking at a proposed constitution for the new amalgamated organisation as well as a draft structure taking account of the aims of both organisations which are broadly similar.

As far as our members are concerned we don’t anticipate any major differences from how FCLGA currently operates.

Our Championship and East Division Jamboree  would remain in the same format and we expect our current competitions would continue - depending on the level of entries which have been a concern this year.

The amalgamation may provide an opportunity to jointly host competitions with the men to maximise the use of courses - but those discussions are still at an early stage.

It is our intention to discuss the benefits of a potential amalgamation fully at the AGM in October where we welcome any comments or questions. If this proposal is successful then we would hope to have it in place by the start of next year’s playing season.

We would also hope to have a good female representation within the new organisation and will be asking for expressions of interest once the structure is agreed.

At the moment if you are a member of a mixed club you will already be paying a fee to FGA - which is currently £2 per year. The current proposal would maintain that fee at £2 and our current FCLGA fee of £25 will no longer be required.

I trust this letter will allay any concerns you may have regarding this potential amalgamation. I do think this will be a positive opportunity to both FCLGA and FGA members and will create an organisation that can fully represent amateur golf in Fife at all levels.

I look forward to seeing you at the AGM where this can be discussed further – however if you have any questions before then please get in touch with me.

Regards

Marina Hope

President
